Peraso is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the development of single-chip mmwave transceivers. Peraso’s goal is to provide best in class standard products targeting a variety of mmwave applications. Additionally, Peraso is positioned to provide custom solutions tailored for customer specific opportunities.

The Opportunity

The unlicensed 60 GHz band has been available for several years, but only now is it possible to implement devices in low cost SiGe BiCMOS and CMOS technologies. The 60 GHz band offers unprecedented advantages over other unlicensed bands, e.g. 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz. First off, the band itself spans upwards of 7 GHz, easily allowing multi-gigabit communications. The short wavelength means antennas (traditionally a large constraint on implementation size) can be very small thus yielding a small footprint; further, the small size makes it possible to implement highly directional antennas which improve performance and allows for frequency re-use and spacial diversity.

The enormous bandwidth means scope of use cases for 60 GHz devices almost limitless:

  • Mobile rapid sync-n-go
  • Desktop interconnect (i.e. USB cable replacement)
  • Next generation wireless networking
  • In-room HD video streaming
  • Cellular backhaul
  • Last mile wireless links

Additional mmwave applications include, advanced medical and security imaging, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, and IC-to-IC links.

The Team

Peraso brings together leading researchers in the design of mmwave silicon circuits with a proven commercial execution team. Over the last 6-years our team has developed 60 GHz to 170 GHz building blocks in both CMOS and SiGe BiCMOS.

The Technology

Our first products target the mobile consumer electronics market and are compatible with emerging 60 GHz standards for ultra high speed wireless communication. The transceivers are characterized by high performance, small footprint and industry leading low power consumption.
